How To Fix A Nuked BlackBerry

A Blackberry device is defined as a nuked device, when it is stuck in a permanent reboot cyle (The device turns on, the white screen with the hourglass appears and then the display shuts off, the device shuts off, after a few seconds it starts up and repeats this pattern over and over again). Even when you plug it into your computer, it just won’t recognize the device.

Don’t worry, you can fix it! What you have to do is reloading the operating system on your BlackBerry. Here is step by step guide:

Backup Third Party Application Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6

Click Here to download the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Software

It is important to backup your 3rd party application before upgrade/downgrade the device OS, switch to a new device, or just in case a nuked BlackBerry requiring you to wipe the device.

Since the Backup tool in Blackberry Desktop Manager will not backup your 3rd party application , Here is a way to do it (this is a sneaky way of backing up the 3rd party applications):
      • Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the USB sync cable. If you have a password enabled, enter it so your device will connect to the desktop.
      • Click Yes when your phone asking if you want to enable mass storage mode.

Backup & Restore Data Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6

The Backup and Restore tool in Desktop Manager allows you to make full backups or selective backups, from your BlackBerry device to your computer (in which you select which databases on your device to back up), or to restore saved files to your device. Similarly you can choose to restore a backup completely or selectively restore only some databases (address book, messages, calendar, browser bookmarks, theme settings, personal settings, etc).

It is important to backup your personal data before upgrade/downgrade the device operating system, switch to a new device, or need to restore a nuked BlackBerry.

      Back Up Device Data

Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the USB sync cable. If you have a password enabled, enter it so your device will connect to the desktop. Click Yes when your phone asking if you want to enable mass storage mode.

      Battery Pull

A battery pull (hard reset), restart the operating system on your BlackBerry just like rebooting on your PC. It’s not same as using the power off option. A battery pull (remove the battery from your device) will solve various minor problems, frees up application memory and keep your device running like new.  But for those who want to avoid accidentally breaking the battery cover or breaking a nail when remove the battery, there are a few free third applications  -that simulate a battery pull-  available to download (QuickPull, RestartMe, etc). The other way (similar to simulate a battery pull/hard reset) is perform a “double soft reset”.

How to perform a double soft reset?
      1. Press and hold the Alt key on the BlackBerry smartphone
      2. While holding down the Alt key, press and hold the Right Shift key
      3. With both of those buttons still pressed, press the Backspace/Delete key. The display on the BlackBerry smartphone turns off to indicate that the reset has started, and the keys can now be released. The red indicator light will appear and the screen will go blank
      4. When the screen is no longer blank, press the keys again (point 1 to 3). You should then see another black screen followed by the red indicator light appear.
